A Columbia favorite, now in its fifth year! Join us for our Annual Oyster and Pig Roast at City Roots. A collaborative of chefs and friends from City Roots and LowCo Barbecue & Catering will be cooking pigs, and we will be roasting local Bulls Bay oysters for you to pick and shuck all day. We will have live music plus a cash bar, huge smokers, shucking tables and barrel fires! This is a limited ticketed event, and you can only get tickets pre-sale we will not be selling at the door. Your $45 ticket will cover pork, sides and oysters per person. Bring your shuckers, gloves, appetite and koozies! We will start serving at 12:30 pm and stop at 4pm. Oysters will be served until 5pm. $45 per person.

August's Butcher Paper Dinner is going to be a special one! Chef Kristian Niemi will be preparing an homage to one of his favorite chefs, David Chang of Momofuku. Guests will be treated to Ginger-Scallion Noodles and "Bo Ssam" Pork with all of the garnishments and more. Join us on Saturday, August 12th for a great evening filled with good food, good company and lots of fun.

Butcher Paper Dinners promise to become your favorite way to spend Saturday afternoons at the farm! This series of sustainable dinner parties center around one communal table at City Roots; surrounded by the farm's beds of vegetables, friends, and music from our favorite local bands. Covered in a roll of butcher paper, the table becomes the centerpiece for family style feasts from some of our favorite chefs in Columbia. Eating with your hands is encouraged, and food is served directly on butcher paper. At the end of the dinner we roll everything up and throw it in the compost. No waste, just good food, good company, and lots of fun!

Butcher Paper Dinner Series: Crawfish Boil!

Join us for our FIRST Butcher Paper Dinner at City Roots farm to kick off the Rosewood Crawfish Festival with a traditional Crawfish Boil with live music!

 

The Crawfish Boil is a traditional Louisiana food event that is popular during crawfish season, which starts in March. Crawfish are boiled with Cajun spices, corn on the cob, new potatoes, and other vegetables. When ready, the pot is dumped onto a table covered in butcher paper and diners eat directly from the pile! You can grab, pinch, twist, and suck your way through a pile of tasty boiled crawfish!

Crawfish Boil ticket holders will receive FREE entry to the Rosewood Crawfish Festival on May 7.

Join us for the 4th Annual Cream of the Crop Beer Festival at City Roots farm, featuring a selection of craft breweries found only in the Carolinas! This festival marks the finale of Soda City Suds Week, a city-wide celebration of craft beer. Tickets include your tasting glass, beer guide and all tastings. Additionally, you can grab a bite to compliment beer tastings from food vendors Bourbon Columbia, The Oak Table,  and The Wurst Wagons. Additional pints are available to purchase during the event. At the end of the festival, if there is any left over beer, attendees can fill their growlers for a fee. Tickets are not sold at the door, and ticket sales are limited to allow for a comfortable tasting experience with live music and food by local restaurants who support our food and farming community.

Mardi Gras at City Roots!

COME ONE, COME ALL and celebrate Mardi Gras Columbia 2017 with the Krewe de Columbi-Ya-Ya! Our infamous parade rolls at 11am from City Roots through Rosewood, past the Publix supermarket, and then back to City Roots. The parade will feature 2 local marching bands, members of the Krewe de Columbi-Ya-Ya (in addition to several other Krewes) as well as the float featuring our Royal Court, King Kristian Niemi and Queen Mia McLeod! Everyone is welcome and emphatically encouraged to wear a costume or your best Mardi Gras attire.

***THIS IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY, FREE EVENT!**

Several regional and local musicians on 4 stages begins at the end of parade around noon. We have a solid lineup this year so you will not want to miss out on the positive vibes man! Abita Brewing and River Rat Brewery will be available to quench your thirst and several food vendors of various kinds will be in supply for just about any taste.

Nabhan comes to Columbia on the occasion of his latest book release, entitled "Ethnobiology for the Future," a collection of essays exploring issues of humanity, identity and our attachments to place, flora, fauna, fungi and feasts. Enjoy small dishes featuring hyperlocal, heirloom ingredients and wine in the company of Nabhan, a well-regarded pioneer in local food movement and seed-saving circles. Guests will have the opportunity to hear Nabhan read a selection of his poems about seeds and their sowers in an intimate setting.
